DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Hello everyone, here I will convey the text description explained by Mrs. Yuni last Wednesday Happy reading friends

Understanding Descriptive Text

Descriptive text is a type of text that describes the characteristics or properties of an object, be it a person, place, thing or animal. The purpose of descriptive text is to provide a clear and detailed picture of the object to the reader.

Descriptive text is different from narrative text or recount text which tells an event or event in time sequence. Descriptive text focuses more on describing objects statistically, without involving action or change.

Descriptive text is also different from report text or explanatory text which provides general information or an explanation about something. Descriptive text is more specific and subjective, because it describes objects according to the author's experience or views.

Characteristics of Descriptive Text

There are several characteristics that we can find in descriptive text, including:

Using simple present tense, because the description of the object is not tied to a specific time.

Use nouns and noun phrases to name the object being described.

Use adjectives (adjectives) and adverbs (adverbs) to provide details about the characteristics or properties of objects.

Use figurative language such as simile (comparison), metaphor (metaphor), personification (personification), or hyperbole (hyperbole) to make descriptions more interesting and lively.

Descriptive Text Structure

Descriptive text usually has two main parts in its structure, namely:

- Identification: this section contains an introduction or identification of the object to be described. Usually in the form of a title or opening sentence that briefly states the name of the object.

- Description: this section contains a complete description of the object which includes physical characteristics, properties, functions, uniqueness, or other things related to the object. Usually in the form of paragraphs consisting of descriptive sentences

In descriptive text there is a formula for using adjectives, called OSACOMP.

O = Opinion (Atitude/Observation)

S = Size (Size/Height)

A = Age (How old is it?)

S = Shape (Shape/Weight/Length)

C = Color (Color/Approximate color)

O = Origin (Where is it from?)

M = Material (What is it made of?)

P = Purpose (What is it used for?)

Examples of Descriptive Text about Objects

1. Lamp

It is a receptor that converts energy. Although the lamp is commonly known as a unified object, the truth is that it can be divided into two parts: on one side is the luminary (which is the device that serves as a support) and the proper lamp which is the device that produces the light (bulb).

Although originally the lamps only have the function of lighting a room or sector of the home, there are lamps of all kinds and a great classification can be made according to their age, their price, their durability, their style, etc.

thank you and good bye
